The Geekbox: Episode 2

Finally — the long-awaited second episode of The Geekbox! This one’s a bit shorter, though still filled with entertaining, haphazard conversation. It’s also the first episode to have an iTunes presence from the get-go, so please — in addition to Digging — subscribe and review the podcast on iTunes if you’re a fan, so it’s visible to more prospective listeners (episode 1 had close to 32,000 downloads — hopefully I can beat that!). The Geekbox is currently #1 in iTunes’ Video Games podcast category, but it won’t stay there without your help.  And of course, I welcome comments and feedback in this post’s comments section, via e-mail, or via Twitter. Enjoy!

UPDATE: Almost forgot — if you’d like to see some photos from our recording session, Karen Chu’s posted a few on her blog. And if you’re in the mood for other fine audio/video productions from talented ex-1UP folks, I encourage you to check out Rebel FM, Co-Op, and A Life Well Wasted.

The Geekbox — Episode 2 (2009-01-28)
Wherein we discuss the mean streets of Silicon Valley, the latest developments on Burn Notice and Lost (spoiler warnings!), the PC version of Mirror’s Edge, why nobody should care about Final Fantasy XI, why the Academy Awards are a bunch of nonsense, the pros and cons of comic scribe Grant Morrison, and the aftermath of Andrew Fitch’s hot date.  Starring Ryan Scott, Karen Chu, Andrew Fitch, Greg Ford, and Ryan Higgins.

Geekbox Radio: Coming this week!

Tune in late this Friday (or possibly early Saturday, depending on how things work out), where you’ll be able to download the first of what will hopefully be many episodes of Geekbox Radio, an all-new gaming audio podcast from some of the talented ex-1UP personalities who brought you shows like GFW Radio, Legendary Thread, and Sports Anomaly (I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet as far as who’s appearing — you’ll have to tune in to find out!). With any luck, it might even be good. 😉

You might also notice that I’ve added a PayPal donation button up top. Let me be clear: I am not asking for free handouts here, and I don’t expect my loyal fans to pay my rent or anything crazy like that. The best way to support what I’m doing here is to download the podcast, listen to the podcast, leave comments here about the podcast, and Digg the podcast (this is especially important — if you’re looking forward to this podcast and want it to succeed, please Digg so more people can check it out!). This podcast is only as stable as its fan base, so please show your support and vote with your ears/Diggs. That said, any donations made to the site will — first and foremost — be used to enable a half-decent podcasting setup (I won’t lie — the first episode’s not gonna be very advanced, technology-wise!). In any case, I plan on full transparency; if anyone decides to donate, I will disclose exactly how much I’ve received and exactly where it’s going. Also note that this is a separate venture from Rebel FM and the 1UP Show crew’s new project, so if you’ve donated to them, you’ve done more than enough. We may be separate, but we’re still one big family.

Thanks for all your support and kind words so far, and stay tuned — hopefully we won’t disappoint!

UPDATE (2009-01-13): Thanks to all the support and donations, it’s starting to look like I might be able to record this thang with some decent equipment. I’m completely floored by the response, everyone. This is your podcast as much as it is mine. Now I really hope I don’t let you guys down!

It’s a Long Way to Tipperary

I’m sure most anyone who would find their way to this site has heard the bad news by now — as of this moment, me and many of my dear colleagues at are out of a job. It’s not all bad, though; my good friends Nick Suttner, Anthony Gallegos, and Philip Kollar have enjoyed some pretty unbelievable success with the first episode of their Rebel FM podcast (as of this writing, it’s the #1 gaming podcast on iTunes, and the #6 podcast period). And the stand-up video crew that brought you the 1UP Show is cooking something up, and it’s sure to be worth everyone’s while.

As for me: You’ll see my name popping up on a couple of sites in a freelance capacity in the near future, and I’m hoping to find a more permanent new home before long. I’m also in the process of hashing out my own podcast, though that’s really gonna depend on whether you guys want it or not. I’ll try to keep you all updated on my goings-on. Leave a comment or hit my Twitter feed if you’d like to give me a shout-out and profess your support (or lack thereof) for a theoretical podcast.
