Cobra!

Postby LiQuid » Mar 22nd, 2011 @ 11:53pm

Anybody see Cobra? I just watched it for the first time and it was fucking amazing. There's an ax cult! It also has quite possibly the single, best 80's montage I've ever seen in my entire life! If anybody has any contenders PLEASE let me know, cause I fucking LOVE 80's montages. Don't even bother mentioning Scarface's Push it to the Limit montage cause it is great but this one is WAY better. WAYYYYYY better.

Good fucking lord it's so good!

Damn it Liquid. This was going to be my pick for the movie box 2.

It is the quintessential eighties action film:

Renegade Cop
Investigation Montage (with Robots!)
Cult of Psychopaths
Copious amounts of knife/gun fondling
Injured Sidekick
Curiously empty industrial setting with flames and chains
Town with no local law enforcement

80s montages are defined by Rocky

Rocky I & II gave birth to the montage

But Rocky montages reach their epic proportions in the 80s

Rocky III

Rocky IV

It's been a while since I've seen the movie but I do remember it being bad ass 80's.

Don't you ever fucking reference Rocky when talking about 80's montages. Rocky only featured tasteful, well executed montages, and should only be mentioned in conversations like "What's the best movie ever?"

Later Rocky films, however, are fair game. Rocky 4 is 25% film, 75% music video. It's so funny that Rocky is the greatest movie ever, but the sequels are horrible examples of 80s garbage. Has this happened before? Say what you will about Godfather 3, but it's not as if they morphed the series into a Die Hard rip off. I guess it just proves that Rocky was lightning in a bottle.
