The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Postby jinpei05 » Jul 1st, 2010 @ 6:50pm

Courtesy of IGN.com:

Enough speculation already. Andrew Garfield has been officially cast as the new Spider-Man in Sony's upcoming 3D reboot, due to hit screens on July 3, 2012. The studio released the news via a press release.

The new film will begin production in early December, directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad will produce.

Garfield (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) is one of a few names that have been thrown around to take over the role. The list previously included Josh Hutcherson, Jamie Bell (Jumper), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek), Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro) and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson). But all of them can stop practicing their web slinging, as Garfield has beaten them all out.

Ok, whatever. Young, fresh, new face. I'm more concerned what the new costume will look like...

Does this series really need a reboot?

Unless they take this shit out of high school I do not give a damn. Peter graduated high school in issue #28, so why the fuck does everybody always go back there?

High school is concept a wider audience (kids and adults) can relate to.

1. I don't know who that is.

2. Spider-Man didn't need a reboot, just a quality script for number 4

3. Seriously, who the fuck is this kid?

Going by that logic let's set it in middle school. Even more of an audience! Come to think, being relatable? That's a waste of time. I mean, I know I can relate to being a water farmer on Tatootine, or an aristocrat during the civil war, or a rich billionaire who's parents were killed.

Look, I find adults being engrossed by high school drama fucking creepy. Spider-Man starts in high school, he grows up, he does the college thing, maybe he even graduates college. I hate Ultimate Spider-Man for the Saved by the Bell bullshit and I'm gonna hate this movie for the same reasons if they go that route.

This Kid: http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/07/02/a-b ... -garfield/

Boy A, Red Riding 1974 and Spike Jonze's ''I’m Here''

Also minor roles in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and Doctor Who.

And yeah he's very English if you questioned.
It all started with a bang.

I can understand the suits at Sony saying, "Okay, what's-his-face is getting too old to play Spiderman," but I think it would be awesome for them to run with the concept of a middle aged super hero.

He looks like he might make a good Doctor Who in a couple of years...he got a bit of a David Tennant look about him. Is he British?

Those eyebrows are way too powerful-looking to be on Peter Parker's face.

He's just not Peter Parker. His looks are villain-like, quite similar to Zachary Quinto in fact. A good young Magneto, maybe, but not Parker.

So? Zachary Quinto played Spock. And Spock is a saint.

He's like Killer Croc, but not as cool somehow. I don't know how to describe it except that if we were talking about sports, I'd say he has poor intangibles.

Garfield was pretty good in The Social Network but that could have just been good directing by Fincher and great writing by Sorkin. Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy seems cool, and Marc Webb did a good job with (500) Days of Summer and James Vanderbilt did a kick ass script with Zodiac. Rhys Ifans as the Lizard is kinda of an unknown but I'm actually really encouraged for this new Spiderman. Granted I was not the biggest fan of the Raimi/Magiure Spiderman anyways, the only Marvel comic property I ever cared about was the XMEN.

To me this makes more sense than doing a Spider-Man 4, because let's face it, Peter Parker turned into a disco-emo girlfriend-punching douche. Plus, what I took away from the Sandman plot in 3 was that Peter didn't NEED to be Spider-Man; if all it took for Flint Marko to accidentally shoot Uncle Ben was a nudge from the criminal Peter didn't stop, then some kid skating by on his wheelies probably would've done it. Spider-Man 3 was meant to be the end of a trilogy, it just wasn't that good.

And I'm guessing Lizard will be the villain in a way that sets up a major A-list villain in the next film, Batman Begins style. I've been saying for years that Spidey just doesn't have the caliber of villains for more than two or three movies. Did anybody REALLY want to see the rumored John Malkovich as the Vulture in a fourth Raimi movie?

Honestly I'd rather just boycott the movie in the hopes that Sony loses the rights and we get Spidey in Avengers 2 in 2014 or something.

To be fair, that the retarded Venom-Scorpion hybrid they introduced a year ago, not the classic Mac Gargan.
