I just want an 8K remaster of the original trilogy on Blu-ray with some awesome audio. Sure, I'll most likely see any new movies that come out, but I really want that super high resolution version of the original trilogy around so when 8K displays start coming out, the transfer will already exist.

Probably also important to note that this purchase also appears to include ILM which is a subsidiary of Lucasfilm. So now Disney owns both ILM and Pixar.

Poopy-Lucas isn't writing or directing so Ep 7 has the potential to be alot of fun.

Right now - how hard do you think JJ Abrams is freaking out and working the phones to try and get himself onto the next Star Wars film?

What are the odds Gore Verbinski directs Episode 7?

Isn't ILM mostly just a special effects company whereas Pixar is an animated film studio?

He's already made the best Star Wars film though. It was called Star Trek. It's also the best Star Trek film.

Right, and he did so because what he really wanted to make was a Star Wars film, not a Star Trek film. But Star Wars wasn't available for him to make. Now that it is, I have to imagine he is losing his freaking mind and trying to pull every favor he has to get on the project.

Movies are cool but wouldn't it be nice if Disney finally made nice on that live action Star Wars show that never happened? Would be cool to see some sci fi on primetime, network television again, even if it has to be Star Wars...

I still can't believe this news is real, I thought it was totally a joke until I saw the same story everywhere. It feels like Doc Brown just pulled up in the driveway and told twelve-year-old me that Marvel and Star Wars will become Disney brands in the future. I am very surprised, but honestly this may be the best thing for Star Wars going forward. Also, what the heck is Episode VII going to be, and how is it coming out in under three years?

Poor Darkhorse although I don't know how well the Star wars comics sell so maybe it's a bearable loss when their current contract runs up

Who knows we might see the Jeid v Sith v A v X in the next decade or FF visit a galaxy far far away.

"What about Indiana Jones? Well, Dr. Jones is still a part of the overall purchase package — but Paramount still owns the distribution rights to the films. So don’t hold your breath for a Disney Indy movie just yet. " -Io9.com

Yeah, my point was that Pixar was originally part of Lucasfilm and ILM and have now been reunited under the Disney banner.

Lucas has said Star Wars was originally supposed to be a 9 film trilogy of trilogies with maybe another trilogy after that for 12 films total. This was later abandoned however, the vague initial idea he's talked about for the VII to IX films is the rebuilding of the Republic and the main characters of the first three films back as old people to pass the torch on down to the next generation. C3-PO and R2-D2 would be the only characters that would be constant through all 9 films.

Although who knows maybe the'll end up turning the Yuuzhan Vong stuff in to the script for the movies. (Disney also announced plans for VIII and IX for 2017 and 2019 additional source)

Anyway here's Lucas talking some more about the announcement and the transfer of president of the corporation to Kathleen Kennedy. (one of the most succesful producers in U.S. film with respect to box office earnings of films she's been producer on)
