Looks kind of like a bro'd out, too-serious crime flick like Boondock Saints. Eric Bana is the shit to the tenth power, so I'm going in with an open mind, but superficially it looks like Troy Duffy and Guy Ritchie got together and blew each other until this spewed out.

I spent a lot of time looking up "greatest movies you have never seen" lists. This was on several of them and I hadn't seen it at the time. Most of the other movies listed I had.

I see. Not a big Eric Bana fan. ;) He redeems his Hulk performance in this film.

I'm assuming you mean needs no redemption. I happen to agree with you but we are in the minority.

Ya, that's what I meant. I'd wager for the majority of people that didn't like Hulk, Bana's performance wasn't the main reason. Everyone involved did what they could with that messy script.

Ang Lee is great. Problem was that it was a comic book movie that wasn't aimed at comic book fans. It's too arty. If they had gotten rid of the name and visage of Hulk, it would have been a pretty good sci-fi/drama. Definitely not the popcorn muncher that the newer Hulk flick was. I liked them both for totally different reasons. I thought Ang's editing and especially his use of the comic panels was pretty masterful.

Given the merchandising and advertising of Ang Lee's Hulk, I think they were hoping for a wider audience outside of the comic book fans (think Spiderman). They missed. I liked the movie and really enjoyed the comic book panel transitions.

He really wasn't. Eric Bana had personality in the Hulk, and sufficent screen time to flesh out his character. He was a pointless, motiveless, poor excuse for an enemy in Star Trek.

A little bit of background info that I missed the first time I watched Chopper. I don't think it really spoils anything but I wrapped it in the spoiler tags just to be safe.

Spoiler: show
The reason Chopper is in jail at the beginning of the movie (serving a sentence of 16 years) is because he kidnapped a judge and tried to extort him to get Jimmy Loughnan out of prison.

Watched it today with someone that had never seen it before, knew of Chopper, since he appears on radio quite often as a commentator when something significant happens in Australia, she thought he was a monster, I tried to explain that he was a self-realised man that tended to go after those that were as shit as him.

He was extreme, such as the prison war him and his group staged to the point where his plan to break the legs of everyone not on his side was too extreme for his own group; that then turned on him.

He was brutal to get straight to the point, no mixed questions, no mixed answers, count to 10 and kill a man. Great fucking movie

Bana is so good in this otherwise embarrassing movie. The fact that the movie exists is kind of sick. This guy seems like such a shitty Australian stereotype and he actually gets rewarded for it by becoming some sort of folk hero when he's really just a shitty scumbag. I did love the final scene of him sitting alone in in his cell though. I shed a tear for lonely Uncle Chop at the end there. Right. Totally.
