The Dark Knight Rises

Postby GiantAsianMan » Oct 27th, 2010 @ 9:01am

... is the title for the next Batman movie.

http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2010/10/ ... e-riddler/

Nolan also gives some villains that *won't* be appearing in the next film.

Glad Riddler and Mr. Freeze are off the table. I really want Two-Face to make a come-back!

Fucking why?! Do we really need villains doubling up in these movies? Batman has one of the biggest and best rogues galleries in all of comics.

Why would they call it "The Dark Knight Rises"? It seems too close to the last one, and implies a prequel to me (which if it was a prequel then it would be a good title, but we don't need a prequel to The Dark Knight because we have Batman Begins).

Because he only got the last 15 minutes of the film to shine. And Two-Face is fucking awesome. Read the Long Halloween and Dark Victory for proof of this and possible spoilers for this film.

Don't overthink the title. Rise can mean "to become active in opposition or resistance," or "to attain higher rank, status, or importance." Nolan's movies have felt like an extended origin story to me, so I bet this is the flick where he gets fully Batman'd up with all the wonderful toys and the massive working Batcave.

I imagine it's about redeeming himself in the public's eye after the whole "he killed Harvey Dent" ending of the last one.

Let's remember that Batman is now on the run from law enforcement. The title "The Dark Knight Rises" suggests that somehow he will redeem himself and once again be looked at as a hero. The fact that Heath Ledger passed away pretty much means the Joker is out, which in my opinion nixes Harley Quinn from being in the film. Nolan's more realistic approach to Gotham nixes Poison Ivy. The obvious choice here is Catwoman but how will battling her redeem Batman? There must be a second villian that's more of a threat to Gotham than even the Joker. It's the only way Gotham will accept Batman as a hero again. I just pray Megan Fox has nothing to do with this film. Discuss.

The word 'rising' has a lot of connotations of 'rebirth' to me.

I think we could have Catwoman, but in a smaller role - a sort of background plot. It could also be about him assembling his team, recruiting Robin and Batgirl and so on.

I like that the Nolan-Batman is a total loner. If Batgirl and Robin show up, Imma be pissed.

There are rumors that Nolan is meeting with actresses in the late 20's/early 30's range. For what, no one's saying.

Selina Kyle, Talia Head, or Barbara Gordon are the front-runners. Silver St. Cloud or Vicki Vale a slimmer possibility.

To me, the next logical step is to introduce Dick Grayson and how he'll become Robin. Nolan's used Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's Long Halloween as a partial template, so it kinda makes sense to flow into Dark Victory.

And the name of the movie is The Dark Knight Rises. i guess the question is to whom does he rise to?

I disagree. I think adding Robin would be a mistake and wouldn't fit the world Nolan's already created. Also, I think Nolan's used Long Halloween as a template far less than you seem to think he has. Yeah, he copped some of the Two Face origin from it, but that's it. It's influenced the style of the movies, no doubt (along with Year One), but not the stories.

Forget Catwoman I hope Talia al Ghul gets a nod instead

As for Two Face returning, how could they possibly pull that off?

Simple. They lied about Harvey dying while stashing him Arkham the whole time, in an attempt to save his reputation.

People keep saying that but The Joker was as unrealistic as any super villian. He had near god like omniscience. Not to mention the BS sci-fi of Batman's gear or Al Ghuls water vaporizer.

More realistic compared to what the Burton/Schumacher movies became. At least in these movies they explain where the tank came from. In Burton's first movie he just HAS a jet.

And personally I've been pulling for Hush as a movie villain since Batman Begins.

Seriously? Dick Grayson was the best Robin. It took Tim Drake years to earn his combat chops and even longer to have the leadership skills that Dick seemed to naturally have.
