I wouldn't be that upset if it was The Human Torch that was the victim in today's Comic-Con stabbing... just sayin'...

RDJ worked the room per usual, asking the crowd if they had seen Inception. When they applauded "yes", RDJ said that the Chris Nolan movie was one of the most "ambitious" movie he has seen in quite some time.

And then the actor paused, and said that Marvel assembling all of these heroes in one movie, for the first time ever, is the most ambitious thing.

"And if we're gonna make a movie this ambitious," Downey continued, "[then] the most important thing is to get the guy to helm it to meet [the fans'] approval". That man is, of course, Joss Whedon, and the audience clapped in support of that choice until their hands bled.

So the scuttlebutt from everything they showed at Comic-Con is that the roster is going to be Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, the Hulk and Black Widow, and the Infinity Gauntlet is going to play a part somehow, which I guess qualifies as a threat "no single hero could withstand." Plus, Joss Whedon doing more stuff in space. Sounds good to me.

I'm curious as to the tack they're going to take with Hawkeye and Black Widow. I'm guessing it could be somewhat like the SHIELD Black Ops bit from The Ultimates, which they're riffing on pretty hard just from Iron Man 1 & 2.

I think that everyone seems to be getting a bit antsy about the casting choices. I think the most "ambitious" idea about this project is the use of the same actors and producers. The biggest event to ever happen to make this possible is the creation of Marvel Studios. By them keeping the rights to all of the movie license and keeping the contracts scripted in a way to keep actors on future projects is and was a dream come true. Yeah the Hulk has been re-cast again but it is worth it to keep cry baby away from the Producer's chair.

Joss Whedon is a great choice in my opinion. I love his Serenity work, not a huge fan of his Buffy and enjoyed his Dollhouse. I do love, however, his character development. Now we just need to have Nathan Fillion for Hank Pym.

All in all, everyone can bitch, cheer and simply be baffled but the bottom line is that everyone is going to watch this movie...everyone!
Simply Norman...

An official Avengers movie promo poster was recently spotted at the Los Vegas Licensing International Expo.

The photo of the poster has been skewed and cropped to compensate for parallax distortion.

That's gonna be an expensive movie to make. I really hope for their sake that they've got a good script and director.

As for the director, that would be this guy:

(a.k.a.)Joss Whedon

As for the script, we can only hope.

As much as everyone in these parts of the internet has a raging hard-on for Joss Whedon, when was the last time he made something that was financially viable?

Since when was financial viability a measure of a good film? I have no massive love for JW, in fact I had to look him up on wiki but I don't like judging films on income because most people are stupid.

I said nothing of the sort. Just that:

As much as I like Joss Whedon, he seems like box-office poison lately. I like the Avengers, I like most of those actors, and I like Joss Whedon. I just hope that, for their sake, the movie doesn't tank because with all those big stars, it's going to be an expensive film and a costly misstep if it does fail.

The Avengers should suck because there's too many main characters but if there's one person on the planet that can pull it off it's Joss Whedon. All his best work is about groups of characters.

He has directed one movie.

Was gonna say this. Not only has he directed a single movie, it was a sequel to his own failed television show. It was a movie with literally zero mainstream appeal. No stars, no easy sell premise, sci-fi without being a SFX blockbuster... All thing considered it should have never existed. It's a bigger budget, made-for-TV movie.

Watched it... Looks like blurry awesomeness... 2012 seems so much further now... if you can handle the wait... I highly recommend waiting to see it after Captain America in all its glory!
