He has metal things on his wrists so I guess they're going with the mechanical web shooters.

Hey wait. . . yeah, I was looking at the slight redesign of the gauntlet pattern, but yeah, you're right, mechanical webshooters! Fuck ya!

Mechanical makes slightly more sense than organic, but that's not the issue. The issue is that mechanical gives you more story shit (Oh no, I'm out of web fluid!), and plus I'm a Spider-Man nut and what them mucking with the character as little as possible.

Mechanical web shooters are definitely more faithful to the source material. As long as they don't run into stupid plot devices like not having money for the chemicals to make the fluid, I'm ok with it.

I know mechanical web shooters is faithful to the source material (though I thought I read Stan Lee saying somewhere that they only did that to not piss off the comic code) but I'm highly against gadgetry based super powers so I liked the bio based webs. Really though, it's such a minor thing that having strong feelings either way is kind of dumb.

It always struck me as weird that Peter Parker gets bitten by a spider and gains the strength, speed, and agility of a spider, yet not the most signature feature. Having him gain organic web shooters was a great idea.

Yeah, webshooters aren't the most important feature, but organic webbing is just kind of, I dunno, icky. It also fucks with me because I've been able to accept the other stupid powers because it's what I grew up on, but you introduce me to organic web shooters as an adult and I just think "how's his body make all that shit? Where are his spinnerets? Shouldn't his forearm be bulging or something?" Yeah I know, all things considered it makes as much sense as sticking to walls, but that's how my brain works.

Biologically speaking, the ability to make webs isn't really what sets spiders apart from the rest of insects.

And why aren't they insects? Is it on account of their web spinning? No. It's their leg-count.

There are many differences between insects and arachnids.

- The body of an insect is comprised of three segments: the head, thorax and abdomen. The body of an arachnid is comprised of two segments: the cephalothorax and abdomen.

- Insects have six legs; arachnids have eight legs.

- Insects have compound eyes; arachnids have simple eyes.

- Insects have antennae; arachnids do not.

- Many insects have wings; no arachnid has wings.

- Insects have mandibles; arachnids have chelicerae (fangs)

- Insects undergo some form of metamorphosis; arachnids do not.

That's a very Konanda-esque post. My point was that spiders are not defined by their ability to make webs, and while not worded in the most elegant manner, your post directly above only confirms that assertion.

You can thank Yahoo answers for that. ;)

Name one insect other than moths that spin webs.

My objection to using "web spinning" as a primary characteristic of spiders is not because there are other animals that can spin webs or create silk, but because not all spiders can/do spin webs. For example: wolf spiders, jumping spiders, and trapdoor spiders - three very common spiders - don't spin webs.

Sometimes I mix up the word "bugs" with "insects". It happens. So who is the bigger nerd here? The me, or the guy getting upset that I misclassified spiders as insects on accident.

I'm not getting upset. You made a mistake, and instead of just saying, "Oops, I meant arachnids," you go off on some bullshit tangents to cover your mistake. It's fucking hilarious.

So I'd say "the you" are the bigger nerd.

I suppose you could see it that way; I was mostly just trying to clarify what I originally meant though. Either way *shrug*.

Pretty silly and unbelievable. But like you mentioned in the Captain America thread, the entire concept of a Spiderman is ridiculous and unbelievable to begin with.

The reason I actually don't like organic webshooters is that the machine webshooters added a level of complexity and strategy to Spiderman's fights that I sorely missed in the films. Spiderman had to worry about running out of web in the middle of fights, or protecting his shooters from being damaged (which villains actively targeted), or strategically placing refill cartridges around the city without getting caught, hiding his web-chemistry from other people like his family, or simply having enough cash-money to continue making more web cartridges.

I know that in general, films have to simplify shit to make it work for the format, but I still wish they'd found a way to make web cartridges work.

Which one of these definitions do you mean when you say BFD.

Also, toe shoes are awesome. Jinpei - just pretend Spiderman is a ninja, which he kind of already is.
