Good news, everyone!

The animated series, resurrected by Comedy Central years after its cancellation by FOX, has been renewed for two more 13-episode cycles, reports EW.com. This is in addition to the new cycle of 13 episodes coming this summer, which completes Comedy Central's initial 26-episode order.

As EW notes, it's unclear if we should consider the 13 episodes aired each year individual seasons or if the 26-episode orders are one combined season; hence the word "cycle." But hey, that's all semantics – the point is, Futurama will be on the air for at least the next three years, with 39 new episodes to come!

Looks like new episodes will start on June 23rd with Bender witnessing a crime committed by the Robot Mafia and being forced into Witness Protection.

The Robot Mafia is overplayed. Witness protection for robots sounds stupid too, though we'll probably get a funny gag like having some stupid feature of bender's altered. Glad the show is coming back though. Is it gonna be a 13 episode half-season again? Or the full shebangabang?

Overplayed? They haven't been in a single episode since the return!

13 episodes.

Ugh. Both of the new episodes were snoozers. I barely cracked a smile during either one.

I fell asleep during the second one, but that was mostly due to exhaustion. The first one was funny from what I remember. The show isn't nearly as funny as I remember it being - I wonder if that has to do with the exodus of talent once it originally got canned. I'll still watch it because it's far from terrible and still good for a few really solid laughs. But I'm afraid that it's sadly traveling down the same road as Family Guy.

Not even the return of Robot Devil was enough to save this episode. I few snickers and smiles, but nothing compared to last summer's stellar batch.

Robot-devil was a pretty good episode, but it was also a very self-referential episode, which I'm not a huge fan of. One of the reasons why I loved Futurama so much originally was that they could do whatever the hell they liked in each episode because shit - this is the future! They've got the whole universe at their disposal, unlike Springfield. So it's kinda lame to see them pull from the Simpsons' playbook and overly reuse characters/plots/gags.

Really? A Minority Report riff and a Schrodinger's cat gag? For shame, Futurama.

Again, nothing but a few snickers.

My gut impulse was to be like "ugh, too many references/tributes" but let's be honest, the old Futurama was just as bad at this. I loved the Star Trek episode, for instance. I thought it was a funny episode all things considered.

Glad someone finally realizes that everything Matt Groening has ever done has been bad. Shit got cancelled for a reason. The only reason Simpsons never got cancelled is because it's some sort of shitty American icon. Simpsons was never good to begin with either. Except for Simpsons Sing the Blues. That shit was alright!

You know what would be cool? If they cancelled the Simpsons and put Adventure Time on in its timeslot so the rest of America could discover what a good cartoon is.

Actually, it wasn't, and you should be ashamed for saying that. Go watch "Bend Her," and see how far this series has fallen. Fuck, just go back and watch "The Prisoner of Benda" from last summer.

I've seen everything, I still think it's funny (except for the movies). The Star Trek episode was the best one of the show (fuck Jurassic Bark) because it's about me and the things I like.

Your statement of "old Futurama was as bad as this" is what I was challenging. Are you saying when Futurama had bad episodes they were as bad as this, or that the series overall was this bad?

The first. I think the total quality of the show has gone down, but things are far from a Family Guy position where the relaunched show barely resembles what came before it (even if both were shit). But there were definitely a lot of the issues you have with the relaunch that were endemic to the original show.

"The Prisoner of Benda" and the 2011 Writer's Guild Award it won proves that this show is capable of greatness equivalent to, if not greater, than the original series.

Nice to see the Robot Mafia back, but again, mostly snickers and smiles. No laugh out loud moments. Still clinging to hope for more quality funny in the pipeline.

Pretty awesome episode. I don't think Futurama has missed a mark when it's gone time traveling.

Also, awesome Doctor Who sighting in this episode (I had to rewind it to make sure what was going on). I think it was the Fourth Doctor?
