Anybody that hates Mystic Quest HATES music. HATES it. Best fucking tunes of any game of all time, much less just the SNES era.

I've got a whole bunch of really good suggestions if you all are looking for some great chiptunes

I could post pretty much the entire Mega Man Zero collection soundtracks, but here are a couple of my favs:

Mega Man Zero 2 - Departure
Spoiler: show

Mega Man Zero 3 - Volcano
Spoiler: show

Mega Man Zero 4 - Falling Down
Spoiler: show

It has always boggled my mind that this was made on the Game Boy sound processor:

X - Tunnel Scene
Spoiler: show

Earthbound, one of the best RPG's on the SNES also had one of the best soundtracks:

Earthbound - Fourside Theme
Spoiler: show

Earthbound - You've Come Far (Coffee Break)
Spoiler: show

I could keep listing stuff off. Probably will if the thread keeps going.

One more, just because I actually played through it the other day (well, almost through it, damn you Technodrome!) and Lemon already posted the title. Here's my favorite song from the original TMNT game.

TMNT - Stage 5 Interiors

Oh man, Kirby's Dreamland! So many good memories. I used to play this game as a kid just to listen to the music. These songs from it are even better:

Approval for Dedede's Theme. I used to sit at that fight and listen to it as long as I could before I died. Which was, you know, a long time. :)

Man, I beat this game within like two hours of getting it. But it was worth every penny. There was a period in my young life where I would whip the game out every day and play it, just to hang out with Kirby in his fantastically fucked up world.

Haha, speaking of nerdy music shit I did as a kid: I beat this shit and then popped in a cassette and recorded like 10 minutes of it so I could listen to it on repeat on my walkman!

Started replaying Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice, which means more fuckin' Ace Attorney music!

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice:
Spoiler: show

Ace Attorney: Investigations:
Spoiler: show

These were the first two games that were built for the DS from the bottom up, so the music fidelity is markedly improved.

I need to dig up my old Legend of Mana soundtrack and listen to it again. I think you chose the best song on there though. Yoko Shimomura is easily the secret best videogame music composer ever.

I don't care if it's not "chiptunes" persay, as long as it came out of a videogame.

You've opened pandora's box, lemons!

MGS3 had some sick music, even though a lot of the mood music was completely forgettable. It was used so well in that game. The way Snake Eater starts playing halfway through the final boss fight is just... absolutely masterful. And when the game whispers Snake Eater's lyrics to you while climbing "The Ladder"? I've never felt so alone and sorrowful in a game. The music in any MGS really helps pull the player into a level of immersion that the vast majority of games struggle with, or have no concept of.

Image
Some more good music from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater:
Spoiler: show

This last song that plays through the end credits encapsulates the mood of MGS3's main narrative thrust in a way that's eerily perfect.
