Geekbox Radio: Coming this week!

Tune in late this Friday (or possibly early Saturday, depending on how things work out), where you’ll be able to download the first of what will hopefully be many episodes of Geekbox Radio, an all-new gaming audio podcast from some of the talented ex-1UP personalities who brought you shows like GFW Radio, Legendary Thread, and Sports Anomaly (I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet as far as who’s appearing — you’ll have to tune in to find out!). With any luck, it might even be good. ;)

You might also notice that I’ve added a PayPal donation button up top. Let me be clear: I am not asking for free handouts here, and I don’t expect my loyal fans to pay my rent or anything crazy like that. The best way to support what I’m doing here is to download the podcast, listen to the podcast, leave comments here about the podcast, and Digg the podcast (this is especially important — if you’re looking forward to this podcast and want it to succeed, please Digg so more people can check it out!). This podcast is only as stable as its fan base, so please show your support and vote with your ears/Diggs. That said, any donations made to the site will — first and foremost — be used to enable a half-decent podcasting setup (I won’t lie — the first episode’s not gonna be very advanced, technology-wise!). In any case, I plan on full transparency; if anyone decides to donate, I will disclose exactly how much I’ve received and exactly where it’s going. Also note that this is a separate venture from Rebel FM and the 1UP Show crew’s new project, so if you’ve donated to them, you’ve done more than enough. We may be separate, but we’re still one big family.

Thanks for all your support and kind words so far, and stay tuned — hopefully we won’t disappoint!

UPDATE (2009-01-13): Thanks to all the support and donations, it’s starting to look like I might be able to record this thang with some decent equipment. I’m completely floored by the response, everyone. This is your podcast as much as it is mine. Now I really hope I don’t let you guys down!

    Ryan,

Love the name Geekbox. Realize you’ve had it for a while, but it really works well. Geekbox Radio is also a great name. Looking forward to the podcast. Is this a skype affaire? Assuming it is since it seems like we can assume Shawn and Jeff are in it.

  2. Ryan Higgins says:

    Digg, Lazarus, Digg!

  3. Jason D. says:

Ryan O’Donnell just twittered about how many hardcore gamers’ wives watched the 1up show. Well, I just wanted to let you know, Ryan, about my non-gaming wife and her addiction to GFW/LAN Party…

Now, as I mentioned, my wife is DEFINITELY not a gamer, but together we listened to EVERY single GFW/LAN Party… at first she was weary, but you guys eventually won her over – BIG TIME!

Our countless day trips to the beach this past summer with my wife and chihuahua were made with GFW on the ipod for the whole 2hr drive… we shared some of our greatest moments with you guys during these trips. Great memories!

    Awesome!

  4. FartOfWar says:

Fans of The Brodeo should be very excited about this podcast. ;)

  5. Ryan Scott says:

schmidt, I believe those shows are all gone for good.

  6. raz says:

I will donate infinite amount of money if you round up all the old GFW Radio crew on the pod. it will be fantastic.

  7. sjschmidt93 says:

Hell yes, Ryan, hell yes, can’t wait. So, will the old 1UP podcasts continue, just with new people, or are Legendary Thread, LAN Party, 1UP FM, etc. gone for good?

  8. Thomas Dale says:

I’m really looking forward to the podcast and anything else you do in the future.

Make sure you keep writing. Your stuff was great; I always paid specific attention to anything with your name on it in EGM, GFW, and on 1up.

  9. Me says:

    Awesome. Looking forward to it!

  17. Ryan Sumo says:

  18. Ryan Scott says:

Tommy, it will definitely be on iTunes. My tentative hosting arrangements are gonna pose no problems for keeping track of my traffic/downloads. That said, the more downloads it gets on iTunes, the more popular it gets. So please download it from iTunes if possible. I’ll definitely be explaining all this when the podcast goes up, heh. :)

  19. Tommy says:

Question–Will this venture be on itunes?
Question–If it is does, does that take away from ‘hits’ for you, rather is it better to get the podcast directly from your site or from itunes?

  20. Zanthox says:

O BUDDY! I was so afraid I would never hear that sweet voice tell me how sorry he was again!

  21. jensemann says:

Nothing to be sorry about from now on.

  22. sdf says:

Ryan my man, I trust your venture has been sufficiently spread-sheeted.

  23. Jailem says:

Well at least you don’t have to spend weeks coming up with a new name.

  24. HyperOnion says:

Hooray! Looking forward to hearing it. I’m so glad all you guys are keeping on with the podcasting.

  25. gajderowhat says:

Oh, no Ryan. Too good. Too good!

  26. Jordan G says:

This better have some Robert Ashley or I’m gonna explode in nerd rage.

  27. I am super stoked, Ryan. I signed up for Digg just for you. Be happy!

  28. Mind on 1UP says:

Sound awesome Ryan- I fully support a re-affirmation of all that the random crowd of popular/socially acceptable misfits that back the CGW/GFW/1UPPC/Ryan Scott empire.

The only darkness I see on the horizon is that moments like these tend to have aftershocks- even if they do recover.

God bless- and best of luck- and keep it clean.

  29. Alec says:

    hell fucking yeah!

  30. Skywarpgold says:

Awesome news! I can’t wait for Friday now!

  31. Really looking forward to this!

  32. Daniel says:

    I can’t wait.

Have you looked into the possibility of getting Shawn and Jeff back via skype?

Thanks for keeping the podcast going

  33. Gamertag RoBb247x says:

  34. Allen Jennings says:

  39. Gareth says:

    Totally radical.

  40. [...] mystery team of former GFW Radio, Sports Anomaly, and Legendary Thread Alumni will be podcasting this Friday. In the meantime, drop by and digg their story so they can get even more exposure, and maybe even [...]

  41. Justden says:

That’s awesome. Might one of the participants have the initials J.G.? You can just say yes, even if it’s not actually, remotely, in any conceivable way possible.

  42. Matt says:

While I’m super excited to hear this news, I don’t understand why you guys are all doing separate things. You could all do your own podcasts, but it would be much more powerful if you all banded together to form one site or network of shows, rather than just twittering about each others stuff.

  43. MetallicaX13 says:

    Awesome! I can’t wait!

  44. Hi Ryan,

Good luck on the new venture. I can’t wait to find out who’s going to be on the show or if it will be a one man ryancast, which would be awesome by the way (especially with “what the hell?” sound bytes so it’d be like you talking to yourself).

Anyways, good luck. .’m sure the podcast will be great,

P.S. I can’t give you any money (due to no credit card and the irish recession) but will you accept good karma instead?

  45. Holy crap! I had no idea this was going on, nor Matt’s stuff at Talking Orange. Good thing I’ve got Phil on my Twitter. (Following you now, too.)

Congratulations, Ryan!! It’s amazing how much stuff is happening. (Apparently Garnett has something cooking, too.) It’s hard to have everyone splintered out all over instead of right where they were at 1UP, but I’m so happy to see so much stuff going on, and so much buzz! Digg incoming.

  46. Rishard says:

Who is going to be on the show with you?

  47. Ryan Scott, back on the airwaves! Looking forward!

  48. Will Hubbell says:

Fuck yeah. All the podcasts I unsubscribed to are coming back full force. I love you guys.

  49. Looking forward to it, Ryan!
