Geekbox Radio: Coming this week!

Tune in late this Friday (or possibly early Saturday, depending on how things work out), where you’ll be able to download the first of what will hopefully be many episodes of Geekbox Radio, an all-new gaming audio podcast from some of the talented ex-1UP personalities who brought you shows like GFW Radio, Legendary Thread, and Sports Anomaly (I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet as far as who’s appearing — you’ll have to tune in to find out!). With any luck, it might even be good. ;)

You might also notice that I’ve added a PayPal donation button up top. Let me be clear: I am not asking for free handouts here, and I don’t expect my loyal fans to pay my rent or anything crazy like that. The best way to support what I’m doing here is to download the podcast, listen to the podcast, leave comments here about the podcast, and Digg the podcast (this is especially important — if you’re looking forward to this podcast and want it to succeed, please Digg so more people can check it out!). This podcast is only as stable as its fan base, so please show your support and vote with your ears/Diggs. That said, any donations made to the site will — first and foremost — be used to enable a half-decent podcasting setup (I won’t lie — the first episode’s not gonna be very advanced, technology-wise!). In any case, I plan on full transparency; if anyone decides to donate, I will disclose exactly how much I’ve received and exactly where it’s going. Also note that this is a separate venture from Rebel FM and the 1UP Show crew’s new project, so if you’ve donated to them, you’ve done more than enough. We may be separate, but we’re still one big family.

Thanks for all your support and kind words so far, and stay tuned — hopefully we won’t disappoint!

UPDATE (2009-01-13): Thanks to all the support and donations, it’s starting to look like I might be able to record this thang with some decent equipment. I’m completely floored by the response, everyone. This is your podcast as much as it is mine. Now I really hope I don’t let you guys down!

Loved the podcast. One favor, can you try and make the levels more consistent? I don’t know if it was people moving away from the mics or what but people were often at wildly different volumes. Makes it hard to hear everyone. Thanks and keep them coming.

    Ryan,

Excellent first “new” podcast! Karen and Greg were great as always and I really think you have kept the CGW/GFW/Lan vibe. I just joined Dig just to dig this and even though I hate Itunes I am going to review it on there. Keep up the great work. (I love the “raw” chick portion)
    Peace……………

Episode is late in classic GFW fashion. Looking forward to it, Ryan.

Hey, big GFW Radio fan here; been listening for a long time but never posted. According to your twitter you finished the podcast hours ago, I was just making sure you aren’t dead? Well if you aren’t dead then I’m still really looking forward to it. Good luck

    i love my mommy

40 bucks! This better be the best beer i ever had …

Screw Lost ! Look forward to Battle Star Galactica …AND Ryan’s podcast ;)

Don’t say “thang” again, Sam I mean Ryan.

Ryan Scott, the GFW Strong Silent man in the background, now with his own damn show!

I’ll be sure to listen and judge accordingly, especially when Lost starts back up here next week.

Good luck Ryan, keep the overhead low and the BS flowing (the good BS that is), and hopefully you and Talking Orange can be the new Giant Bombcasts of the Interwebs.

Namco, on the contrary, I will be appearing on next week’s episode of Rebel FM. This is definitely a separate production, but we all support and link to each other.

    This is great news Ryan!

Can’t wait to hear what you have to say, I’ll be tuning in to yours and rebel.fm stuff in the months to come.

Can’t wait to hear what you’ve got Ryan. On one hand you’ve broken away and are not participating from Rebel FM, but on the other hand, “F-YEAH!”, it’ll be like we’ve go the brodeo back!

just listened to rebel.fm — [the premiere wednesday podcast ].. can’t wait for tomorrow to experience the premiere friday podcast! keep it up ryan, we all support you!

I’m really looking forward to seeing what you have in the works. Two things I’m really anticipating in the coming 7 days: This podcast & Lost!

Can’t wait. I hope your working to get this on iTunes as well.

We’re behind you 100%, Ryan. I’m extemely glad you’ve decided to carry on the legacy.

Ryan – all luck brother, without hearing a word you have my vote on I(tard)tunes.

If ye can make a decent podcast happen (regularly) I’d be willing to pitch in a little something something via pp donation.

Till then my fingers are crossed!/

Really looking forward to it I know you will do a great job! It’s great to see three great sites from all the people who lost there job’ (well A good few of them).

It’s also great that you guys are getting so much cash, as soon as I have some spare i will be donating.

Well, I might not be able to spare much with my crappy job, but since GFW Radio and then Lan Party were by far my favorite podcasts, even within 1up, you’ve got my donation.

Keep the spirit of the Brodeo alive!

Ryan!! Merge with eat sleep game and talking orange instead of doing your own thing!! You will have more support and $$

I’ll sure as hell be tuning in!

This news just made my day. :)

Alright ex-1uppers, huddle up, huddle up! It’s time to start a podcast; what’s goin’ sell? What’s goin’ sell? Sean Molloy, Jeff Green, Shawn Elliott. . . They’ll paypal us money!

This is so awesome! Thanks for working so hard to continue bringing us more great entertainment. I am really looking forward to the show.

sweet! excellent, you guys r the greatest.

Ryan, just tell Jeff that the new podcast is called Gearbox Radio; A show about motorcycles. How could he refuse?

    New podcast? Hell yeah!

Glad to see you back on the air papa smurf.

I find it hard to imagine going from “a bunch of fun guys heving interesting chats about games” to “pretending like I don’t find let’s-celebrate-nerds solipsism repulsive”. Have fun!

Falcomadol, believe me, I want that as much as you do. :)

    Win!

Yes, thank you. Any chance Jeff will be rejoining the cast occasionally?

    Ryan, make it happen…

When the old brodeo folded, my first thought was, “Oh, shit, now we’ll never hear voice on podcasts anymore,” and then I was so happy when you built something new. So do that. Again. Build something new.

The world just wouldn’t be the same without a weekly “WHAT THE HELL!”, take my money and make me proud Ryan Scott and Co.

Wish you the best of luck in this project and I for one, as a huge fan of your previous work, will be supporting as much as I can.

    Pretty Awesome, really amazing….

The team that keeps the earth spinning – all the 1up’ers and ex-1up’ers.

Great to see you continuing podcasting!

Thank you so much for continuing to podcast! Hearing this news has brightened my week!

Hey Ryan, may sound cheesy, but I’m glad you’re continuing podcasting. I’ll download it as soon as I can after it’s released.

I can’t wait Ryan. Great to hear you’re keeping (virtual) radiowaves alive.

Let me guess— will Greg “The Yakker” Ford be making an appearance?

    YAK! YAK! YAK!

My weeks have been empty without the usual 1up podcast. It’s awesome that you’re making something new.

Can’t wait for the podcast Ryan.

    Hurraaaaay!

    Ryan,
GFW radio and Subsequently LAN Party sat right at the top of my favorite podcast list. So glad to hear that you and the mystery crew will be continuing on I really look forward to it. Hope the donation helps sorry it couldn’t be more. It is a great thing actually – it seems pretty incredible that coming out of the aftermath of the 1UP sale that all of my favorite things seem to be remaining intact in one form or another – Rebel FM has already posted and I’m really looking forward to what the Talking Orange folk put together for us. I wish I could have been donating to you guys all along – hell NPR does it why not you. Many thanks and best of luck moving forward – congrats on climbing so high on the Digg list as well.

    Ah, sounds awesome =]

    ROBERT ASHLEY
    ROBERT ASHLEY
    ROBERT ASHLEY.

I’m just trying to do you a favor, Ryan. Your podcast will be great without the esteemed max chill, but it’ll be totally amazing if you could get him to come on. He’s great and it’d be a total shame if no one picks him up as a regular.

    PLEASE.

Dugged! Looking forward to the first episode.

the personalites at 1up became a staple of my gaming life. i will follow and support you all. very happy to hear that you’re keeping your spirits up and forging on.

    Ryan,

Love the name Geekbox. Realize you’ve had it for a while, but it really works well. Geekbox Radio is also a great name. Looking forward to the podcast. Is this a skype affaire? Assuming it is since it seems like we can assume Shawn and Jeff are in it.

    Digg, Lazarus, Digg!

Ryan O’Donnell just twittered about how many hardcore gamers’ wives watched the 1up show. Well, I just wanted to let you know, Ryan, about my non-gaming wife and her addiction to GFW/LAN Party…

Now, as I mentioned, my wife is DEFINITELY not a gamer, but together we listened to EVERY single GFW/LAN Party… at first she was weary, but you guys eventually won her over – BIG TIME!

Our countless day trips to the beach this past summer with my wife and chihuahua were made with GFW on the ipod for the whole 2hr drive… we shared some of our greatest moments with you guys during these trips. Great memories!

    Awesome!

Fans of The Brodeo should be very excited about this podcast. ;)

schmidt, I believe those shows are all gone for good.

I will donate infinite amount of money if you round up all the old GFW Radio crew on the pod. it will be fantastic.

Hell yes, Ryan, hell yes, can’t wait. So, will the old 1UP podcasts continue, just with new people, or are Legendary Thread, LAN Party, 1UP FM, etc. gone for good?

I’m really looking forward to the podcast and anything else you do in the future.

Make sure you keep writing. Your stuff was great; I always paid specific attention to anything with your name on it in EGM, GFW, and on 1up.

    Awesome. Looking forward to it!

Overjoyed to know I’ll be hearing your voice again, will try and send a small donation your way once i get payed.

Ryan… thank-you for continuing on with this. GFW/LAN Party were two of the best ‘casts on the webs! You, sir, are a king!

The donation I hit you with wasn’t substantial, but it might get you one or two of them fancy headset-mic thingys!

    cheers mate!

“Hello and welcome, to yet another spiritual successor to the Brodeo. I’m your host Ryan Scott, and I’m sorry for everything you’re about to hear.”

Let the Brodeocity commence!! I’m so happy you’re going to continue podcasting Ryan. Thank you for keeping the GFW spirit alive! F’YEAH!!

    On zune marketplace too please!

    *crickets*

Tommy, it will definitely be on iTunes. My tentative hosting arrangements are gonna pose no problems for keeping track of my traffic/downloads. That said, the more downloads it gets on iTunes, the more popular it gets. So please download it from iTunes if possible. I’ll definitely be explaining all this when the podcast goes up, heh. :)

Question–Will this venture be on itunes?
Question–If it is does, does that take away from ‘hits’ for you, rather is it better to get the podcast directly from your site or from itunes?

O BUDDY! I was so afraid I would never hear that sweet voice tell me how sorry he was again!

Nothing to be sorry about from now on.
    The Best
    J

Ryan my man, I trust your venture has been sufficiently spread-sheeted.

Well at least you don’t have to spend weeks coming up with a new name.

Hooray! Looking forward to hearing it. I’m so glad all you guys are keeping on with the podcasting.

Oh, no Ryan. Too good. Too good!

This better have some Robert Ashley or I’m gonna explode in nerd rage.

I am super stoked, Ryan. I signed up for Digg just for you. Be happy!

Sound awesome Ryan- I fully support a re-affirmation of all that the random crowd of popular/socially acceptable misfits that back the CGW/GFW/1UPPC/Ryan Scott empire.

The only darkness I see on the horizon is that moments like these tend to have aftershocks- even if they do recover.

God bless- and best of luck- and keep it clean.

    hell fucking yeah!

Awesome news! I can’t wait for Friday now!

    Really looking forward to this!

    I can’t wait.

Have you looked into the possibility of getting Shawn and Jeff back via skype?

Thanks for keeping the podcast going

Please support this guy if you enjoyed his content of EGM/1UP!

Awesome, congrats Ryan! I can’t wait to hear the podcast.

    I’m stoked!!!!!!!!!!!

Seven shades of awesome! I await with bated ears! What the… HELL YES!

    Very rad. Make us proud.

I can’t wait to hear it Ryan. I sent $10.00 along to try and help with any associated costs or equipment.

    Totally radical.

[...] mystery team of former GFW Radio, Sports Anomaly, and Legendary Thread Alumni will be podcasting this Friday. In the meantime, drop by and digg their story so they can get even more exposure, and maybe even [...]

That’s awesome. Might one of the participants have the initials J.G.? You can just say yes, even if it’s not actually, remotely, in any conceivable way possible.

While I’m super excited to hear this news, I don’t understand why you guys are all doing separate things. You could all do your own podcasts, but it would be much more powerful if you all banded together to form one site or network of shows, rather than just twittering about each others stuff.

    Awesome! I can’t wait!

    Hi Ryan,

Good luck on the new venture. I can’t wait to find out who’s going to be on the show or if it will be a one man ryancast, which would be awesome by the way (especially with “what the hell?” sound bytes so it’d be like you talking to yourself).

Anyways, good luck. .’m sure the podcast will be great,

P.S. I can’t give you any money (due to no credit card and the irish recession) but will you accept good karma instead?

Holy crap! I had no idea this was going on, nor Matt’s stuff at Talking Orange. Good thing I’ve got Phil on my Twitter. (Following you now, too.)

Congratulations, Ryan!! It’s amazing how much stuff is happening. (Apparently Garnett has something cooking, too.) It’s hard to have everyone splintered out all over instead of right where they were at 1UP, but I’m so happy to see so much stuff going on, and so much buzz! Digg incoming.

Who is going to be on the show with you?

Ryan Scott, back on the airwaves! Looking forward!

Fuck yeah. All the podcasts I unsubscribed to are coming back full force. I love you guys.

    Looking forward to it, Ryan!

Something to say?
