Geekbox Radio: Coming this week!
Posted by Ryan Scott in Site Stuff, Video GamesJanuary 12th, 2009 @ 3:07 pm
Tune in late this Friday (or possibly early Saturday, depending on how things work out), where you’ll be able to download the first of what will hopefully be many episodes of Geekbox Radio, an all-new gaming audio podcast from some of the talented ex-1UP personalities who brought you shows like GFW Radio, Legendary Thread, and Sports Anomaly (I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet as far as who’s appearing — you’ll have to tune in to find out!). With any luck, it might even be good.
You might also notice that I’ve added a PayPal donation button up top. Let me be clear: I am not asking for free handouts here, and I don’t expect my loyal fans to pay my rent or anything crazy like that. The best way to support what I’m doing here is to download the podcast, listen to the podcast, leave comments here about the podcast, and Digg the podcast (this is especially important — if you’re looking forward to this podcast and want it to succeed, please Digg so more people can check it out!). This podcast is only as stable as its fan base, so please show your support and vote with your ears/Diggs. That said, any donations made to the site will — first and foremost — be used to enable a half-decent podcasting setup (I won’t lie — the first episode’s not gonna be very advanced, technology-wise!). In any case, I plan on full transparency; if anyone decides to donate, I will disclose exactly how much I’ve received and exactly where it’s going. Also note that this is a separate venture from Rebel FM and the 1UP Show crew’s new project, so if you’ve donated to them, you’ve done more than enough. We may be separate, but we’re still one big family.
Thanks for all your support and kind words so far, and stay tuned — hopefully we won’t disappoint!
UPDATE (2009-01-13): Thanks to all the support and donations, it’s starting to look like I might be able to record this thang with some decent equipment. I’m completely floored by the response, everyone. This is your podcast as much as it is mine. Now I really hope I don’t let you guys down!

Loved the podcast. One favor, can you try and make the levels more consistent? I don’t know if it was people moving away from the mics or what but people were often at wildly different volumes. Makes it hard to hear everyone. Thanks and keep them coming.

Ryan,
Excellent first “new” podcast! Karen and Greg were great as always and I really think you have kept the CGW/GFW/Lan vibe. I just joined Dig just to dig this and even though I hate Itunes I am going to review it on there. Keep up the great work. (I love the “raw” chick portion)
Peace……………

I’ll be sure to listen and judge accordingly, especially when Lost starts back up here next week.
Good luck Ryan, keep the overhead low and the BS flowing (the good BS that is), and hopefully you and Talking Orange can be the new Giant Bombcasts of the Interwebs.

Ryan,
GFW radio and Subsequently LAN Party sat right at the top of my favorite podcast list. So glad to hear that you and the mystery crew will be continuing on I really look forward to it. Hope the donation helps sorry it couldn’t be more. It is a great thing actually – it seems pretty incredible that coming out of the aftermath of the 1UP sale that all of my favorite things seem to be remaining intact in one form or another – Rebel FM has already posted and I’m really looking forward to what the Talking Orange folk put together for us. I wish I could have been donating to you guys all along – hell NPR does it why not you. Many thanks and best of luck moving forward – congrats on climbing so high on the Digg list as well.

Ryan O’Donnell just twittered about how many hardcore gamers’ wives watched the 1up show. Well, I just wanted to let you know, Ryan, about my non-gaming wife and her addiction to GFW/LAN Party…
Now, as I mentioned, my wife is DEFINITELY not a gamer, but together we listened to EVERY single GFW/LAN Party… at first she was weary, but you guys eventually won her over – BIG TIME!
Our countless day trips to the beach this past summer with my wife and chihuahua were made with GFW on the ipod for the whole 2hr drive… we shared some of our greatest moments with you guys during these trips. Great memories!
Awesome!
