It’s a Long Way to Tipperary
Posted by Ryan Scott in Site Stuff, Video GamesJanuary 10th, 2009 @ 2:06 am
I’m sure most anyone who would find their way to this site has heard the bad news by now — as of this moment, me and many of my dear colleagues at 1UP.com are out of a job. It’s not all bad, though; my good friends Nick Suttner, Anthony Gallegos, and Philip Kollar have enjoyed some pretty unbelievable success with the first episode of their Rebel FM podcast (as of this writing, it’s the #1 gaming podcast on iTunes, and the #6 podcast period). And the stand-up video crew that brought you the 1UP Show is cooking something up, and it’s sure to be worth everyone’s while.
As for me: You’ll see my name popping up on a couple of sites in a freelance capacity in the near future, and I’m hoping to find a more permanent new home before long. I’m also in the process of hashing out my own podcast, though that’s really gonna depend on whether you guys want it or not. I’ll try to keep you all updated on my goings-on. Leave a comment or hit my Twitter feed if you’d like to give me a shout-out and profess your support (or lack thereof) for a theoretical podcast.

The destruction of the podcasts was devastating -especially to my weekly routine. A replacement to fill the hole that was left would be greatly appreciated.

hey PoppaSmurf!
Just listened to the 2nd Episode of RebelFm. And they mentioned your site on there. Came straight home from work and jumped on.
Glad to see you’re doing well.

It’s a mere two hour drive to Tipperary from my house, but I suppose it’s probably a long way for you. Anyway good luck in the future and I’m looking forward to the podcast.

I think a podcast would be great. I think you would be a perfect fit at RebelFM or even at Giant Bomb. Those guys are all too loud, they could use a quiet cast member!

Do the podcast Ryan.
You know it occurred to me that there is a big hole where Legendary Thread used to be.
I’m picturing Ryan Scott, Jeff Green, Sean Malloy, and the scarab lord himself, Luke Smith talk’n wow trash.
Yeah this sure would = win!

One little question Ryan : why not participate in Rebel FM ? Doing a podcast by yourself is great, but being in a group where you can discuss different point of view is better.

I’d love to have some more LAN Party and such, honestly. Doesn’t have to be PC only or anything, really. But if somehow you could get Tina, Anthony and the usual suspects together for something it’d be all kinds of awesome — and even if that weren’t to happen, I’d listen to whatever podcast you make all the same!
As a side note, the photograph in this post made me realize just how much of a cutie Tina is. Dee-lish. Just throwing that out there…

I’m a long time listener to you guys at cgw/gfw radio/lan party and legendary thread. I would very much love you to have a new podcast and will subscribe to it right away, hopefully it will blow anything 1up will offer out of the water.
I wish you and your colleagues who also got canned get back on your feet in terms of your careers and i will be watching out for more from you guys in the future.
ps. perhaps you could ask Jeff, Sean and Shawn to skype in from time to time to your new podcast if you go ahead with it.

I hate to post more than once but I’d like to say that my heart goes out to you and everyone else who lost their well deserved and earned positions, I don’t think anyone on that laundry list of the laid off deserved it at all. I can only hope that the result of this massive fuck up by UGO, the caterers of the lowest common denominator result in some really awesome new stuff out there. I for one have cleared any UGO related book mark out of my favorites as I, at this point, have absolutely no interest in supporting such blatant and piss poor elimination of competition and domain whoring.
Best of luck to you and everyone. I appreciate what you guys do.

I’ve been listening to old GFW Radio episodes the past week, not having anything new in the 1UP podcast department has been sucking copious amounts of shitcock.
I hope you know I hold you responsible for easing my 4+ hours of commuting at least one day a week and by failing to start doing a new podcast you’re making me miserable, and in turn making everyone around me miserable, which makes you an asshole.
